Bruce Pearl has a vantage point that many don't: the structure of his organization is already a team. This makes the mindset you have to be in easier to maintain. As a coach, your job is to make a puzzle of human abilities. You have to view each person by not only their own strengths and weaknesses, but which team members you can pull in to bolster each others weaknesses.
This is a tremendously powerful mindset that often doesn't make the translation from the Auburn Arena to the other Arenas of life. The ability to see our organizations as ecosystems that affect each other and that each element touches the one next to it makes clear why it is so important to know who you are working with and foster a team/workplace dynamic of mutual aid and teamwork, rather than allowing members to slip into isolation.
